What’s your journey at Candela been like?
I got to try one of the very first Candela prototypes in my former career as a marine journalist. It was an eye-opening experience. The C-7 prototype delivered a silent, and so smooth experience that fossil fuel vessels felt hopelessly obsolete.
It was immediately clear to me that this invention would genuinely change maritime transport. So when Candela asked me to join the company as the Comms guy, I happily obliged.
Since then, we’ve gone from a small startup to an international company recognized as a leader in electric vessels.
My role has evolved a lot along the way, but the core of the job is still the same: making sure Candela is seen and heard around the world.
What do you enjoy most about working at Candela?
The sense of ownership. If you own an issue, you are expected to take responsibility for it and solve it. At the same time, you are given a lot of freedom to figure out the best way to do that - and the satisfaction of making things happen is fantastic.
It’s also a privilege to work with incredibly smart, driven and fun people who have your back. Being part of a company that is creating something genuinely game -changing and helping shape the future is pretty special.
And I love how short the distance is between theory and reality here. You can be sitting at your desk working on something quite abstract, then simply get up, walk down to the harbour and see the Candelas in action. You’re immediately reminded of what everyone is working so hard to achieve.
How does your role contribute to Candela’s mission?
I lead Candela’s global PR and communications, making sure we tell our story to customers, investors, the media, and the world.
A big part of my job is translating what our engineers and teams are achieving into stories people can understand and care about and showing why hydrofoil technology has the potential to fundamentally change waterborne transport.
What would you tell someone who’s thinking about joining the team?
Do it ! You spend a huge part of your life at work. When you look back, it’s nice to know you spent that time doing something genuinely fun, challenging and important.
