Technology is not neutral - engineering should serve a purpose. At Candela, I’m helping build solutions that make marine transport cleaner, quieter, and more sustainable.
Antoine Bonel, Senior Mechanical Engineer
What's your role at Candela?
I joined Candela as a Senior Mechanical Engineer in the R&D team. My focus is on the C-POD motors, where I help develop and industrialize our in-house propulsion systems at the heart of Candela's flying technology. I also work on other water-related subsystems, from hydrodynamics to pipes, fittings, and of course corrosion protection. Water is central to what we do, and it even helps in fire extinction systems... or flushing toilets!
What do you enjoy most about working at Candela?
I believe technologies are not neutral, and engineering should serve a clear mission for society and the living world. At Candela, I get to work on great tech with a strong purpose: eliminating marine transport emissions and noise while delivering an even better passenger experience. It is both humbling and empowering to build on the work of those who came before me.
How does your role impact Candela's mission?
My background is in highly innovative technologies, and I love bringing new ideas and solutions from other industries to make our systems even more robust. I also hope to contribute my experience and networks in sustainability and circularity, to help move our flying boats from niche markets to mass impact.
What would you tell someone who's thinking about joining the team?
Candela is at a sweet spot: large enough to deliver fantastic, impactful products while scaling production, yet small enough to maintain a culture of innovation and collaboration. Fasten your life jacket and join us for the ride!
